Food & Environment

We value and enjoy the natural environment at Kilsby, growing what we can, sourcing our food locally and recyling as much as possible. Our home-made vegetarian ‘Glamorgan sausages’ are a treat for anyone.

Breakfast

Our chickens provide the eggs for breakfast and the meat, flour, jams and fruit juice are locally sourced where possible. Breakfast includes cereals, yoghurts, fruit juice and fresh fruit, followed by any combination of bacon, sausage, egg, tomato, mushrooms and baked beans. Home-made bread is provided every morning along with a variety of home-made preserves. A selection of teas and coffees are available. We try to cater for all tastes so please let us know in advance if you have any special requirements or preferences. A high-chair is available for our very young guests.

Water

Our water comes direct from the hillside above Kilsby, feeding the kitchen and bathrooms. The Rev Kilsby-Jones used to bath every day in the plunge pool in the garden, which is fed by a separate spring even when water levels are low. It is on the list for renovation.

Kitchen Garden

We are in the process of restoring a kitchen garden at Kilsby in its original walled location.

Recycling

We ask our guests in the house and the cottage to recycle as much waste as possible. There are separate bins for plastic, glass bottles and cans and paper and cardboard.

Renewable Energy

The central heating and hot water is supplied by an Okofen Biomass Boiler and there are efficient wood-burning stoves in the kitchen and dining room. The electricity is supplied by SO Energy, which is sourced by from renewable energy in Wales.
