Things to Do

Man v Horse Bog Snorkelling Llanwrtyd Wells is only a two minute drive or twenty minute walk from Kilsby, and has a population of about 600. It is famous for its World Bog Snorkelling Championship and Beer Festivals.  The town hosts many other events including the annual MAN v HORSE races and a Welsh Food Festival. Many of the local events are organised by 'Green Events' and further details are available on their website by following the link on our 'contacts' page. Mountain-biking is well catered-for with frequently organised events and a local bike store where cycles can be hired and serviced. There are numerous designated walks (local guides available) and a significant number of local and national cycling trails. The town has its own tourist centre, several shops and three friendly pubs all of which offer good food and a range of real ale, one with it's own micro-brewery. Three first class restaurants are located in Llanwrtyd one of which was recently voted best small restaurant in Wales and is also rated by food critics as one of the top 100 restaurants in the UK (10% discount card available to our guests).
Man versus Horse V2 Kim Trout Biking Cycling:
Llanwrtyd Wells is the Mountain Biking Capital of the Western World !! It is the birthplace of Mountain Biking in the UK. There are many miles of on and off road routes and Route 8 of the National Cycle Network passes through here. Come and try the new exciting single track trails in the nearby Trallwm Forest. Bikes can be hired locally in Llanwrtyd at 'Cycles Irfon' which also offers equipment for sale and a servicing and repair service. Drover Holidays offer organised cycling breaks and bike hire.
Fishing:
Mid Wales provides excellent game fishing opportunities. Your host is a keen angler and is always happy to advise on local waters of which there are many within an hour's drive. Grayling and Brown Trout fishing on the River Wye, Sea-Trout and Salmon on the Towy, Brown Trout on the Elan Valley Lakes and a number of local stillwater Rainbow Trout fisheries are all particularly good. Also, we can now offer reduced rate wild trout fishing (£5 per day) on the local upper Irfon beat to our guests (within walking distance - see beat map below!) as part of the Upper Wye Passport scheme. We are also local agents for the passport scheme and can provide books of vouchers (£12.50 for 5) which can be used to access many miles of game fishing on the rivers Wye and Usk and their tributaries. Excellent coarse fishing is available at the Abernant Lake Hotel in Llanwrtyd Wells, at the lake in Llandrindod Wells and on the River Wye at Builth Wells. Further details on local waters are available in our fishing factsheet and in the Wye & Usk Foundation Passport booklet.
